The day of 28 October 1996 saw the beginning of a new union-AUSBE. Also known as the Amalgamated Union of Statutory Board Employees, AUSBE is the joint effort of three current statutory boards: Land Transport Authority (LTA), Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) and National Library Board (NLB). AUSBE was inaugurated on 9 July 1997.

What is AUSBE?

AUSBE was formed because of re-organization bodies. Some government departments and statutory boards have been privatised. As a result, members of the new regulatory bodies cease to be representatives of the various unions they had been under.

AUSBE was thus formed to look after the interest of the these employees. To jumpstart AUSBE, the three unions who have been affected by the change invested a lot of support for its formation.

The Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE), the Singapore Port Workers Union (SPWU), and the Port Officers Union (POU) have provided financial assistance and administrative support.

AUSBE's Missions are:

To promote good industrial relations between the union and management for a harmonious and productive working environment

To enhance the economic and social status of members by improving working conditions and promoting lifelong employability through continuous learning

To work with management in the redesigning of jobs and continued employment after retirement for the benefit of our members

To continuously organize new initiatives and programs to meet the needs and aspirations of members and to attract non-members to join the union
