This Flickr stream is a time capsule of my life. I started this account to document photos of my travels for underwater hockey in my youth, but it has evolved to capture current and historic events in my life. It probably won't mean much to anyone else, but i'm finding this fun anyway.
Some background: I have been playing underwater hockey since 1983. I began at high school and then through matric and University.
I started playing for Tasmania at the National championships in 1991 until 2000. In 1995 I represented Australia at the Southern Hemisphere/ Trans Tasman competition in NZ, then another 4 times including 3 world championships (Durban, San Jose and Hobart), winning three gold and one bronze along the way.
In 2021 I retired from playing underwater hockey - I played my first and last Australian Championships for the Tasmanian Masters team in April (previously i'd always played in the elite men's team), then my A-grade club team won the first pennant series in July. During my amazing experiences travelling around the world, I picked up a lot of 'merchandise' in the form of t-shirts, brochures, etc. I cleaned out my house in readiness to renovate and found some old t-shirts and felt the need to document them before they perished. The earlier part of the photostream includes photos of past competitions and travel during/after competitions so this can be a bit of a uwh history page from an Australian/ Tasmanian team member's viewpoint.
I've also included windsurfing photos - another big part of my life. I still have windsurfing gear, but just need to get out more. It is getting easier now my children are getting older and wanting experiences like this. My eldest son got himself a windsurfer and is keen for me to teach him - I can't wait. Another important part of my life is sailing - I started sailing in 1983 in Sabots, progressing to Sabres in 1986, then NS14's in 1997. I stopped sailing when I moved interstate around 1999 but started sailing NS14's again in 2021 with my children. We currently have 2 NS14's that are amazing to sail.
I've also been documenting the cars I've owned over the years. Something that has always fascinated me - how cars say so much about a person: their transport needs, tastes, etc. So a journey of self discovery I guess - the wheels that have transported me places, helped me do things (windsurfing, camping, travel, work, etc).
