Anderson University
Drag to set position!
We are a dynamic, faith-based theatre program
serious about our calling in the arts.
Anderson University offers professional theatre training in the context of a rigorous but caring environment. The department has one of very few Musical Theatre programs where Christian faith is celebrated. Students take classes in acting, voice, dance, period/style, auditions and technical theatre so that they can be competitive in all areas of the field.
Our theatre degrees include:
B.A. in Theatre
B.A. in Musical Theatre
B.A. in Theatre – Dance Concentration
B.A. in Theatre – Design Concentration
There are five facilities used by theatre students including the intimate and flexible Belk Theatre, the grand Henderson auditorium, the acoustic Daniel Recital Hall, the historic Merritt Theatre, and the Hunt Chapel.
The program, while offering many of the same courses as a conservatory, is intentionally based in the liberal arts for an accredited and well-rounded educational experience.
The theatre curriculum works hand-in-hand with the AU Playhouse to offer students practical experience in performance, stage-management and technical theatre.
The Department actively participates in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and the Southeastern Theatre Conference and has had significant success in both. Some of our graduates have continued to further their education at the Master’s level. Others are pursuing vibrant careers in theatre or related fields such as education, ministry and marketing.
