This collection is managed by a group of Philips' friends who enjoyed his company and photographs greatly until his unexpected passing on in 2012.

'Auchlander' was a creative fellow, always looking for a different angle or subject. He had worked for British Railways, Metro-Cammell and GEC which gave him a wealth of railway and business experience.

In later years, along with his wife, they ran their own graphic design company. Amongst their many projects was the design and production of the exhibition and visitors centre located at Pickering station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Philip was only part-way through scanning and uploading his vast collection of slides and negatives, and it is with pleasure that we continued to make his images available for you to enjoy. Thanks go to Phils' wife Sarah and daughters Catherine and Eleanor for their support and encouragement in this project.

He was no great taker of notes, being most capable of remembering all dates and subject matter! Thus any assistance in confirming dates, locations, train workings and loco numbers is most welcome.

His greatest love was the industrial structure and landscape that was the backdrop to our railway system, as you can see in this photstream. We should be most thankful as most photographers prefer more natural backgrounds for the majority of their images.
