Thanks for checking out my collection that I share on Flickr. Feel free to leave comments or contact me me via Flickr message. Are you great at solving mysteries? Check out my "Seeking Information" album.

My stream consists of photographs and ephemera from my collection that I have found over the years. There is no unifying theme other than I find them interesting. Inclusion is based on odd or interesting subject matter, interesting compositions, interesting errors (fingers in front of lens, light leaks, multiple exposures, etc), interesting captions or writing, unusual formats, historical oddities, aesthetic qualities, and other such criteria. Occasionally I may post more traditional photography (photographs that would not typically be described as vernacular) that I think is interesting or that I am researching and would be interested in receiving information or feedback on. Any help with such research is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to share your observations.

About me- I'm an artist/photographer who started collecting found/vernacular images many years ago for a variety of reasons. My interests include 1960s and older, although I make lots of exceptions. Of particular interest to me include: photobooth, polaroids, negatives, glass plates, dags, ambros, tintypes, cyanotypes, RPPCs, card photographs (CDV, cabinet, etc), snapshots, painted photographs, trick photography (photographic amusements), Kodacolor slides, and found documents/ephemera. I. have contributed to several books and articles including Talking Pictures and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs and a traveling exhibition of Hidden Mother Tintypes. I occasionally give public and private talks on the subject of vernacular photography and may entertain future requests to do so.

The Fine Print:

Generally speaking, I don't sell the images I post on Flickr barring special circumstances or trades. I do have a lot of material that is not posted and therefore might be available. Items that I have sold or left my collection I note in the corresponding description(s).

Stealing images is not cool. Please don't copy and/or distribute my images without my express permission to do so. All of my posted images are of physical prints, negatives, or objects that I physically own and have in my possession, or have had in my possession in the past, unless otherwise stated. I post them strictly for educational reasons. I have spent a lot of money and time collecting these images so I respectfully ask that you honor my request. If you have an issue with a particular posting please contact me via Flickr messaging to discuss removal or modification.

Want to use an image? Contact me via Flickr messaging with the details. I'm supportive of educational or artistic requests and love to lend images for those purposes. If you are a researcher or are working on a book or article, I would be very interested in collaborating or assisting. I have on occasion made parts of my collection available to museums and other institutions both in the US and abroad for exhibitions/shows. For commercial uses, contact me to discuss.

I maintain high resolution scans of everything posted, but I will only provide large/higher resolution files to people I know or trust and for specific reasons that I deem appropriate.

If you like a particular photo I would love to hear your thoughts about it. Comments are welcome and appreciated. I am always eager to learn about photography and enjoy reading what others have to say.

Please use Flickrmail to contact me if you have a question or concern.

Thanks and enjoy.

Dave

AtypicalArt is a collector who is in control of, and has respect for, the diverse images in his vast collection. He is highly intelligent and has a penchant for learning the history behind the photos, and he shares that knowledge with those who visit his photostream. AtypicalArt is not limited to any category or time period of photo, instead he incorporates many different forms of photography in his photostream for us to enjoy. He was my very first Flickr friend, and I have gained a great deal of knowledge from him. He is always happy to explain what he posts, and has the research to back it up.
