Like the time when a designer-to-the –stars needed to upholster the walls of a bathroom in white Ultrasuede™, or when a hospitality designer needed historically-sensitive silk window draperies to complement the intricate faux-bois paneling in a grand antique hotel ballroom, or when an architect required custom printed, pure linen window shades that must open and close automatically at certain times of the day according to the natural light for a contemporary beachfront home.

Michael Tavano is fearless when it comes to decorating, and helps designers, architects, event planners and other design professionals find simple, common-sense solutions to everything from space planning to floral arrangements. In his 20+ year design career he has had his own lines of table linens, furniture and fabrics. His designs have been offered through top retailers including Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s, London’s storied Harvey Nichols and Boston’s venerable Shreve, Crump & Low. Today, his home fabrics are offered to the trade through the New York showroom Two Worlds Arts, and he designs and creates custom clothwork to the trade including window treatments, upholstered furniture, bedding, pillows and table linen. All of his custom work is crafted in New York City.

Known throughout the design community for his quick wit and generosity of spirit, Michael Tavano has established himself as New York’s couturier for home fashions. Designers and home furnishings professionals look forward each year to seeing his clever and breathtaking table-scapes at design industry charity events such as Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS annual “Dining by Design” and the New York Botanical Garden’s annual Orchid Dinner, where donates his time and energy and countless yards of fabric to make themed tables either under his own Michael Tavano Designs label or on behalf of top brand such as Chase Bank, F. Schumacher and Sons, Orrefors and The New York Design Center. He is also active in supporting the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and serves on the Steering Committee of the nonprofit Alpha Workshops.

Michael Tavano shares his colorful, cozy and immaculately upholstered homes in Manhattan and Claverack, New York in the Hudson Valley with his life and business partner, Lloyd Marks, and their dog, Bartley.
