I am simply a vessel through which photographic mediocrity flows.

Shoot em all and let god sort them out...just like grandpa used to say. I shoot and shoot and shoot, then come home and throw 80% of them out and keep the creamy nougat center.

I like both ends of the photo spectrum...I love my big digital, and I love my old Mamiya and Speedgraphic film cameras. I'm a big fan of shallow depth of field. I'm a 3D animator by trade, and depth of field is pretty much something you can't have in computer animation...so that may be why I like it so much.

I have no problem Photoshopping something into the shape I want it. I am not a purest at all. Blasphemy to some, but I don't care.

Flickr is the the coolest thing. Taking pictures is the first thing I've done in a long time that is purely for the fun of it. I don't think about who will like it, who would buy it, none of that crap. I just really like shooting what I like to shoot. I hate to say it, but it's as close to an 'artform' that I think I can handle. I take my pictures and I throw them up there and see what people like. I'm often surprised to see people like photos I didn't think much of...on the flip side, I'm surprised when no one seems to like something I thought was excellent.

I'm also one of fifteen people on Flickr who do not have a picture of a cat anywhere in their photos. We're a small but dedicated group.

Here are a couple of cool quotes from great photographers:

"...the qualities that make for an interesting picture are fairly simple, it must be evocative, mysterious and at the same time realistic."

-Walker Evans

"If you could make one really great photograph a year, in fifteen years you would have 15 really great photographs."

-Saul Leiter

"You get into photography the same way you get into being a prostitute. First you do for fun, then you do it for friends, then you do it for money.”

-Dean Collins
