"PHOTOGRAPHY IS MEMORY - ONLY MORE PERSISTENT!"

John "Asteroid" Delta

A lawyer by profession, a seriously amateur photographer by inclination... Particularly interested in composition, juxtaposition of subjects and elements, deep and possibly meaningful contrasts.

Photography and all art is mainly about ambiance - if I can create one and the viewer feels lost or submerged in it even for a second, it is more than enough for me!

Time and again I'm drawn in by the simple eye-catching color or composition of one of his shots, always finding that there is much more in and about the shot than I ever noticed to start with. It's magical. But enough reading about it! GO to it! Look, laugh, smile, be amazed, be moved and wonder how he does it... I do!

I still remember the day last October when I came across an image in Gargaro’s stream of a blue staircase against a white wall – Greek, of course – that captured my attention. Below it he wrote that it was inspired by his friend ‘Aster-oid’. Needless to say, I just had to see who this Flickrer was to inspire such striking minimalism and entering that link proved to be a turning point in my life, not only creatively, but also on a personal level. It became quite clear with time that these two elements were Aster-oid’s signature – dynamic minimalism and a passion for his beloved ‘Greek blue’, both of which have his followers mesmerized as he presents us with breathtaking combinations of the two. Can it get any better, we wonder? The answer is a resounding ‘yes’! I’ve had the good fortune to meet John in person, to go on photo shoots with him and I’ve seen the way he works – patiently and meticulously to get the angle or the depth of field just right, to bring a juxtaposition to the viewer’s attention, to raise awareness, to question and to analyze, while challenging himself along the way. Of course, that’s the ‘deep and meaningful’ side of Aster-oid, but I’m here to tell you that he does have another side, a very wicked one at that! Just when we’re still in awe of a magical sunset that has left us breathless, out of left field comes a man wearing nothing but a crocheted ‘bathing suit’ (and I use this term very ‘loosely’!), or a half-naked woman in a compromising position that only his eye was quick enough to catch! Well, what can I say? That’s just an open invitation for me and I grab the bait – hook, line and sinker – because as far as wickedness goes, we’re two peas in a pod and there’s no sweeter connection!! So, thank you, John, for taking us with you on your artistic journey – it’s always a thrilling ride and you can be sure we’ll always be back for more! And from me - thank you for being my dearest friend!

John: Extraordinario fotógrafo, qué se dice amateur, ensalzas la belleza de la naturaleza con tu sensibilidad fuera de serie, creo que tu cámara embellece todo lo que toca. Es un honor que por suerte mía estés entre mis amigos. Saludos.

In his profile, John talks about submerging the viewer in atmosphere. That he does! Whether it be the reflection of a trolley car, the look in the eye of a toddler perched on his father's shoulder, a marriage proposal, jeans hanging on the line, or simply an object he's looked at in a different way, John's photos most definitely create an atmosphere. Keep those rich colors and well-seen images coming, John. It's always a treat to view your pics.
