I started photography in earnest in 1979, having acquired an Olympus OM-1 and 3 lenses, a 50mm/1.4 a 135/ 2.8 and a 28/ 2.5, shot all the time with respooled ORWO black and white film, graduated to Tri-X and Plus-X, started working on a product portfolio in the same year, Kodachrome 64 was the film of choice and Kodak would take a week to process, moved to Ektachrome then Fuji Velvia and processed it myself (E-6), armed with those chromes I knocked on the doors of all the large Ad. agencies, work started trickling in from Redifussion, Everest, Ulka, Seasons. Seasons Advertising gave me a couple of assignments every week for 15 years. The money was good but most of it went back into equipment, I bought 2 Sinars, 2 Hasselblads, 2 Nikon F3's and an arsenal of lenses, The Millennium saw the end of film and all the equipment bought over 20 years with the exception of Nikon lenses was sold, I experimented with digital cameras(Minolta DiMage 7 and otrs.) and Photoshop in 2001, and finally got a Nikon D70 in 2005, but had to wait till 2007 for a full frame Nikon D3, Then in 2008 I shot my 1st wedding and was hooked, I shoot weddings exclusively now, with the occasional food assignment, besides shooting I enjoy the post production work, and I will not rest till the picture looks like what I imagined it to be-digital is beautiful.
I am completely digital now and use none of the above gear. I keep my equipment needs simple these days, and painstakingly work towards the picture I have in mind, sometimes I produce just one picture at the end of the day.
Photographers who I've admired over the years, Edward Weston, Karl Blossfeldt, Jeanloup Sieff, David Bailey, Ralph Gibson and Helmut Newton.
A quote I love: It is part of the photographer's job to see more intensely than most people do. He must have and keep in him something of the receptiveness of the child who looks at the world for the first time or of the traveler who enters a strange country.
Bill Brandt

When I began posting pictures on flickr in 2007 I thought that I knew quite a bit about photography. Then I encountered Askmir and found that I had barely scratched the surface. Since our first contact I have not ceased to learn from his wonderful work and incredible wealth of knowledge. He is not only a master of technique, but a serious artist with a heart and compassion for his fellow man that comes shining through in his personal work. Askmir is the complete photographer. He has the technical skills, the knowlege and the fine artistic sensibility to bring to bear for any occasion, whether it be portraits, products, events, architecture, or documentation. As a person he has become my friend and teacher. As a photographer he is a source of inspiration, and a model to aspire to. I would urge everyone to explore his work for a glimpse of a true professional. Skip Cooper
