All comments are welcomed with open arms, both positive, and those that will help me to improve along my journey.

After having this account for a few months, I guess it is about time I added a little something about myself.

I have only recently taken up photography, which my wife has decided is a much safer and cheaper hobby than the flying I used to do in my spare time.

This was started with a Nikon S225, and guidance from a good friend David Milligan (www.flickr.com/photos/untiligetitright/) on how to use it.

From those first blurry and poorly framed shots came a persistance that grew, along with a desire to try out new techniques. From these new techniques, I realised that I was quickly coming to the point where the pitcures I wanted to take could not be achieved from this little Nikon. After much saving, and pleading with my wife, and with my 40th Birthday on the horizon, she agreed to buy me a Digital SLR.

Being fond of Nikon with the S225, I opted for the entry level D3000 with the standard 18 - 55 mm lens, along with the Tamron 70 - 300 mm lens.

At this point, the pictures that I have been able to take have grown in style and technique.

Along the way, I have added a few more extras to my kit including a flashgun, tripod (essential for stability on longer exposures) and filters.

All of this has allowed me to go out and try new things.

Long winter nights has got my interest in taking long exposure shots. Starting at 8 - 10 second shots, leading up to 22 minute exposures to capture movement in stars.

Photography for me is a hobby that does seem to be an unknown journey. Who knows where it will take me, or how much I will learn along the way.

The fun IS in that journey, not always in the result.
