I started taking photographs in 1997, with a compact zoom film camera. It was several years before I got a Canon EOS 350, and only a few years ago when I finally converted to digital with a Canon EOS 350D. I did not even own a compact digital camera until 2008.

While the Canon EOS 550D is my travel-camera, I return to film occasionally with my Holga 135BC and now my LTM rangefinders.

More recently, I have started using medium-format film with my Rolleiflex Automat 4.

Travel Photography

When taking pictures of people I try to get permission if practical. I carry a stack of airmail envelopes and ask the subjects to give write their address on them so I can mail them a copy of the picture - even if you don't know the language the envelope usually conveys the intent. When the subject is illiterate, you can usually find someone nearby who can help, although they will usually ask for their pictures to be taken too.
