Welcome to the Archives of Appalachia's ETSU Appalachian Photographs on Flickr!

The images you see on our photostream come from our Appalachian collections in the Archives of Appalachia, a part of the Center for Appalachian Studies and Services at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.

About the Archives of Appalachia

The Archives of Appalachia is a keeper of memories—the written words, images and sounds that document life in Appalachia. Our collections span from the 1700s to the present and offer insights into the past from the perspectives of people from all walks of life.

The Archives of Appalachia also shares these collected memories with anyone interested in Appalachia and people’s lives in it.

We are excited to share a portion of our photograph collections with you on Flickr, and we encourage visitors to our photostream to contribute tags, notes, and comments that might be of help to other users. For guidelines on adding tags and comments to our images, please see our Flickr Use Policy Statement at the bottom of this page.

What you see here is a fraction of the Appalachian Photographic Archive, a collections of prints that document life in the Appalachian region. The prints have been donated to the Archives of Appalachia by various individuals over the past few decades. The Archives of Appalachia also maintains a number of other photograph collections in addition to the Appalachian Photographic Archive.
