The Tyler School of Art Architecture Institute will serve as an introduction to the conceptual possibilities and practical necessities of the architectural discipline. Slide lectures and informal discussions will establish historical precedents and introduce participants to the diversities of our built environment. Students will engage in challenging design projects and be asked to consider spatial organization, light, materiality, the fundamental application of structure, and the social implications of design. The program will culminate in an extensive design project that will be evaluated through a formal review with guest critics and documented for each student’s portfolio.
