Academic historian by vocation, street and travel photographer by avocation. I love the feeling of disappearing into the background while simultaneously connecting with the subjects I'm shooting. Photography allows me to be introverted and extroverted at the same time. My favorite subjects are people - just the people I see when I'm out in the world, not posed portraiture. History and photography aren't that different at their core - both activities spring from the same well of fascination with the human experience, and the nearly infinite ways in which it is lived.
Photos from my Flickr have also been published - in travel guides, on websites and blogs for print publications such as (Nat Geo Intelligent Traveler), print newspapers, one movie poster, and one book cover.
I take pictures for my livejournal blog too, and for family. Some photos here are for the blog or personal stuff like ebay listings and not for their technical excellence.
