I am a Berlin based writer and photographer with an interest in all things Asian.
I've spent the last couple of years living in Beijing, working as China and East Asia correspondent for Israeli daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
I speak Hebrew, English, German and have two little kids who speak better Chinese than me. I am addicted to lamb kebabs and baozi, and until not long ago was quite possibly the only dreadlocked Jew in all of China.
In the past 17 years, among other things, I have closely documented the Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon; dived deep into the drug and party culture of Tel-Aviv; drank vodka with Mongolian Neo-Nazis and worked on the production line of an electronics assembly factory in Shenzhen.
I sat in class at a Shanghai high school; followed the trail of violence in riot-stricken Xinjiang; observed alcohol and magic mushroom fueled backpacker raves in Laos; ate live octopus in Seoul; watched tanks roll into Kim Il-Sung square and covered the aftermath of the Japanese tsunami.
You can find a selection of my works in this flickr stream. More photos & stories can be found on my website: www.boaz-arad.com
