I am a utilitarian folk artist: a dyer, spinner, weaver, piecer and quilter. Presently I am working with wood as a fiber, weaving baskets from hickory bark, split oak, poplar bark, and honeysuckle. I also find that wood is a great dye for the other textiles I create, whether raw wool or yardage or the basket material itself. My baskets are often dyed and stained while I work on them. My yardage and fibers are dyed simultaneously.

I have been running a textile studio since 1980, originally in rural Lewis County, WV. I became a dyer and designer using pole wrapping (a form of shibori) as my medium. During this time I slowly evolved methods of using my "scrap." The primitive spirit of wasting-not inspired me to use every square inch, whether it be in a woven rag cloth on my loom or a pieced quilt.
