I am a little surprised at myself for not writing about Anu sooner. She came to Flickr just a year before I did and we have been Flickr Friends for many years. I see Anu as a very gifted photo essayist. She is never without her camera, but more to the point is that she knows how to use it. She is a documentary photographer of the first order. She communicates with the world through photography, but she is no casual "snapper;" she has a keen eye for all elements of good composition. She knows how to properly expose a picture under all conditions. It is important to Anu to make pictures you want to look at and linger over. She looks for the quirky, the center of interest, the reflection, the ice crystal, the water drop, the frame of a tunnel or arch or trees, the Kaffee und Kuchen in front of her as she takes a break. She exploits a naturally artistic eye yet never misses a chance to shoot whatever is in front of her ever-present lens, including and especially (but not limited to) her beloved family. She works tirelessly winter and summer, indoors and outdoors, day and night, good weather and bad. Through Anu's unique artistry we get to see so, so much of Europe (with emphasis on Austria and Estonia) that many of us (me) would otherwise never get to see at all. Looking at Anu's pages is a detailed travelogue, a look right over Anu's shoulder to see what she sees as she sees it. When you think about it, that is really very amazing!
