I am most at home in cities and in nature. I find too many things interesting, visually.
i used a canon 1N, mostly tmax film and ilford papers for years, developing out of closets with blankets on windows. finally, had a darkroom built when renovating the new house in 2000, and went digital (after much consternation) in 2002. now i sit in the darkroom with my computer and printer listening to my ipod.
I mostly take bw shots- left over from the film days. for me, color needs to add something to the image, rather than distract. while i enjoy looking at different kinds of photography, i am not an HDR fan. nor do i enjoy looking at images on which the photographer insists on splattering their name.
my images are on creative commons. i have decided to add the tag "steal this picture" to my images. i would like to be acknowledged if you use a particular image. but if you feel the need to do so without acknowledging the source of the image, go for it! i just ask that you not crop the image in any way. that feels like a far greater violation.
March2007. A note about contacts. I am flattered and a bit surprised when people make me a contact. Because it can be overwhelming, I reciprocate only if someone seems interested in (at least occasionally) conversing about or critiquing images. I don't reciprocate simply to be polite, since i actually look at my contacts' images. Also, i don't expect to realistically handle much more than 100 contacts, which means periodic purges, if you have disappeared for a while. i am happy to re-add contacts when folks reappear after the sometimes much needed hiatus from flickr.

Anjan Has been a wonderful contact for about three years now. Most notably, I think for people, is his work in black and white. It has a presence unlike any other on Flick ! Our person artistic endeavours are quite far apart, especially when it comes to subject matter. So why do I like his work so much ? He has, with out a doubt, one of the most keen eyes for lighting that I have ever seen. Coupled with an eye for the unusual and remarkable. Simple things, that I know most people, including myself, would walk by. He composes some of the most well put together scenes. Drawing you through the entire photograph, yet keeping your focus on the main subject. Simply put, he is a fantastic technical photographer whom has the added gift of seeing what is really there.

Compositions and landscapes on his photos are often unbelievable. He understands how to capture an atmosphere and then I can appreciate the revealed truth behind the classics spaces.
Anjan has been a wonderful mentor to me (unbeknownst to him!) during my first year back into photography and Flickr. Through his kind and consistently encouraging words and his beautiful images one can't help but draw inspiration from him. I am very grateful that I crossed paths with him in Flickr-land!

Simply amazing. Amongst an overwhelming amount of photoshoped photos Anjan manages not only to stand out but amaze. Well done.
I'm constantly amazed at the beauty in his images: the very essential human expressions and postures captured in gorgeous black and white. And whether it's people on the street, structures, animals or an abstract there's always a unique visual warmth there -- like an emotional aesthetic...
