In April 2024, I retired from the Victorian Education Department after 32 years as a classroom teacher, then another 11 as an aide in Primary Schools from Traralgon to Parkdale.
I've been photographing whales for about nine years and birds for 4.
For the whales I travel to Phillip Island and Wilsons Promontory in Victoria with Wildlife Coast Cruises, then out of Eden and Merimbula in New South Wales with Sapphire Coastal Adventures.
In Victoria, I'm lucky enough to be a Citizen Scientist Photographer (one of a dozen or so) taking fluke shots for Deakin University's research into the Humpback migration in Victorian waters.
For birds my favourite places are Braeside Park, near Moorabbin Airport in Melbourne. I've photographed 94 species here. The other places are the Western Treatment Plant at Werribee. Also known as the POO FARM, there's no smell, but you do need a special key obtained from Melbourne Water. to enter the facility. Then when I travel to the Prom for whale watching, I visit the Toora bird hide on Corner Inlet.
