The Anchor Press Museum Project is a charitable heritage and educational project, based in Tiptree, Essex, UK.

Our ambition is to establish a working printing Museum and educational workshops in Tiptree, Essex and to capture the history of the Anchor Press (1900-1990), that for many years of the last century was engaged in book printing for the Hutchinson Printing Trust making it the largest book printer in the UK.

The primary aim of this establishment will be to advance the education of young people on the craft of printing with ‘moveable type’, a skill that otherwise may soon be lost forever. To achieve this we aim to incorporate a ‘hands-on’ printing workshop in the Museum that will be utilised by Schools, Colleges and other visitors. Also on site will be a combined reference library and classroom enabling School or College staff to discuss the Museum visit, distribute worksheets to their students and review findings and experiences. Technical instruction in the workshops will be provided by ex-Anchor Press craftsmen in addition to local Designers, Typographers and Printmakers.
