A bit about me

I stumbled into wildlife photography through experimentation for my job. I have worked in marketing and publications for The Woodland Trust, The Wildlife Trusts and The British Trust for Ornithology where I combined a professional interest in images with a love of nature.

This photostream originally started as a place to bring together 'record shots' - a collection of photographs to chart my casual bird and wildlife watching outings. My aim was (and still is) to add new species and challenge myself to 'fill in the gaps', at first paying little mind to what made an aesthetically pleasing image. The more I took the more I wanted to improve, and I've found Flickr the perfect place to learn from and be inspired by the many great photographers out there.

My photostream

All of my pictures are taken in the UK and, with the exception of the odd cow or two, are all wildlife and nature. The vast majority are taken in the wild, but those few marked CC indicate captive animals or where conditions have been controlled. I haven't applied this to specimens from my moth trap.

My equipment includes:

- Nikon D3

- Nikon D3000

- Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3

- Sigma 2x teleconverter

- Sigma macro 180mm f3.5

- Manfrotto 055xprob tripod with 804rc2 head

- Wimberley plamp

- Throw-over bag hide

- Skinner moth trap

I shoot in RAW and use Photoshop for the odd tweak; mostly cropping and spot removal.
