Alan Kayanan is a DMV area native and an enthusiastic contributor to DC’s thriving Theatrical, Musical and Fine Arts communities. He lends his expertise, heart, and mind both on and back-stage to students, actors, and musicians all over the DMV area. Alan is currently engaged at Adventure Theatre MTC, Glen Echo, MD as Patron Service Manager, Company Photographer, and Ship's Counselor. Every day Alan helps people find seats and feel at home in the Theatre. Sometimes, he takers their photograph. He was given his first pair of drum sticks at the age of 10 and has picked up jazz piano & guitar along the way. Alan’s entrance to the Drama came as a freshman playing his first high school musical, Cabaret, in the Pit. As a local musician, Alan has graced every stage in the DMV area backing up groups including Margot MacDonald, BearShark, The Sweater Set, Drop Electric, and space&time. Alan’s ability to navigate multiple musical genres with seamless ease effused with effervescent joy, is a hallmark of his passionate performance style. Portrait Photography brings Alan great bliss, although audiences seem to gravitate more to his abstract fine art photographs. He loves impressionism, improvisation, and Broadway Musicals.
"... I know lots about all kinds of smiles. I have to. I know there's a birth of a smile and a death of a smile. I know that for different people a smile fully blossoms at different times. I know a smile looks different when you exhale, inhale, or hold a breath. I know when a smile starts in your eyes and ends up on your lips. I've seen many smiles that look almost right, but end before they ever get close to your eyes. I love smiles. I love your smile. I love how a smile can be the most welcome and universal form of communication. I love how you can 'hear' a smile over the phone when talking to an old friend who lives thousands of miles away. "
