Hi!
I am a professional photographer, born 1971 in Reykjavík, Iceland but in 1975 I moved with my parents and my brother to the countryside in Borgarfjörður, 100km from Reykjavík where I lived untill 1987. From 1987-1997 I lived in several places in Iceland. In 1997 I moved back to Reykjavík and now I live in the Reykjavík suburbs with my wife, daughter (b. 1997), son (b. 2003) and daughter (b. 2012).
I have been into photography since I was little. I bought my first SLR camera after my confirmation in 1985. First I only used color films but in 1987 I started using black and white films and I loved it. I put up my darkroom in 1989 and shot a lot on b&w films. In 1999-2003 I used color slides films for most things I did and during that time I was shooting in 35mm and 6x7 formats. In 2003 I dove into the digital world when I bought my first digital SLR camera and since then I have shot 99% digital.
At the end of 2006 I decided to go to photography school. I graduated in 2008 from The School of Information Technology at the Reykjavik School of Technology with an award certification as best in class in the specialty field of Photography. The great photographer Brooks Walker became my mentor during the school years. It has been a great fortune to have Brooks Walker as my mentor and friend for the past few years.
Photography is like a constantly growing tree to me. From ever since I started my journey of photography from its roots I am always discovering new paths in it, there is no end to it. There are always some new paths and the old ones just keep on growing...
I love being in the nature of Iceland with my camera.
Landscape and nature has most often been written on my films and pixels but I have been experimenting other things in photography. I have been exploring other categories and I will continue doing so.
Although I do color work I have always liked working with b&w photography, both in the darkroom and digital - lightroom... less is more!
My images here on flickr are just glimpse of what I am looking into now and then.. my experiments.. my thoughts.. my expressions.. my questionmarks.. my memories.. even my mistakes.. it is a mixed bland.
Thanks for your visit, embrace happiness,
Arnar Amason:-)
