You may see Alspix walking around on a sunny (or even rainy) day around Suffolk. He's the one wearing a white lab coat. In one hand he probably has a box of vintage and/cheap, but very cool, cameras (probably about 10 to 15 of them) that he will have paid less for them than you or I would buy a pint for down the pub...for the lot of them! There'll even be a few that he's made himself, "I'll have a box of matches and two rolls of out of date film please." In his other hand he may have a clip board, which he probably uses to manually work out pinhole exposure times based on annual daylight hours that he's been correlating since 1821 by the average moss growth on an abandoned biscuit tin (that he later made into a camera too!). He rarely seems to use one of his cameras twice, although I'm sure he will in time. He is never put off by the conditions he finds his camera kit in. Lenses broken? No problem, use it anyway and get great results. Out of date film? Who cares, will probably alter the colours to make the image just right. Never afraid to experiment with a new idea (actually, obsessed with trying out a new idea; sound activated toycam flash unit anyone?!). Of course, what none of this tells you is how unbelievably wonderful his photos are; and they are. As well as creating some fantastic abstract shots, some sinister urban decay images and some trippy pinhole magic, he's also taken some beautiful photos of his kids that I'm sure they'll treasure for the rest of their lives. Alspix inspires.
