Hi, my name is Aðalsteinn, but I've called myself Alliat online since 1996. I first learned the basics of photography from Gunnar V. Andrésson (News Photographer) at the age of 14. I later spent a year and a half learning the more advanced stuff from Gréta S. Guðjónsdóttir.

After graduating from FB arts devision I lost the access to the darkroom and had to return the old Olympus camera I had borrowed from a relative and thus was forced to turn to digital photography. Don't get me wrong here, the digital is great, but I still miss the good times in the darkroom.

Now I make a living servicing medical imaging equipment (X-ray, Ultrasound, MRI) and using my free time for photography, sketching and making music. I'm selling limited edition canvas prints on my personal website (in Icelandic, English hopefully coming soon).

I am colour blind, but I've learned to live with it and hopefully it won't negatively affect my photos.

My cameras:

-Canon EOS 550D

iPhone XS

-Olympus OM-20 (film)

-Olympus OM-10 (film)

(I have no need to own two similar film cameras, but I love them equally and can't let go!)

My software:

-Mac OS X

-Affinity Photo - Adobe's high prize and subscription-only business module drove me away, but it turns out that I like Affinity better after all.

-PhotoReviewer - An excellent app to sort through one's photographs. Sort through your last session lightning fast!

-EasyCrop - Super fast way to crop and resize photos, I mostly use this for sending email attachments though.

-Squash - This app is very good at reducing image file size without compromising quality - good to keep your website loading times fast.

My mobile software:

-645 PRO MKiii - SLR simulator which simulates real world films and filters. Can save both RAW and original picture (as shot from the default camera) at the same time.

-TPE (all three) - Excellent to plan shooting locations ahead of time. It can predict where the sun will be and it's 3D app can help predicting when that valley will go dark. Extra useful in Iceland where daylight hours range from 4 to 24.

-Darkr - Another simulator but this one focuses more about the "feel" rather than features. It also simulates the film development and editing process - super fun!

-SnapSeed - Fun free editor with a bunch of tweakable presets.

Merits:

Monochrome Photography Awards 2019 - Honorable Mention in Photojournalism (My first international recognition!!)

Photography maraþon of Nýherji (Canon's official retailer in Iceland) 2017 - 1st place. - I'm Iceland's fastest photographer! 😂
