Born and bred in various bits of Scotland and currently living in Fife, I have always been entranced by the Scottish landscape. As I have grown older, my attachment to Scotland has also grown, along with my willingness and capability to explore some of the more remote parts of its landscape. I enjoy the wildness, the sense of remoteness, the distance from civilization that the Scottish landscape can bring.
My interest in photography is stimulated by my attachment to the landscape and, in my photographs, I try in some small way to capture these feelings.
I enjoy cycling and cycle to and from work over the Forth Road bridge. I find cycling an activity which permits an exploration of the landscape at a pace you can appreciate it, and fits in rather well with a love of photography.
Cycling the same route day after day*, through all four seasons, has brought to me an understanding of the way the landscape can change, not just from year to year but from season to season as the land is put to different use and I hope this understanding enriches my photographs.
All this sounds a bit pretentious and like I believe I have some mystical connection to the place I was born. In reality, if I am honest, then like the rest of us, I just point my camera at stuff that looks good and hope for the best.......
*Well not quite the same route, sometimes I avoid that nasty hill just before the animal sanctuary and take the long (but much flatter) way round. Anyone who has cycled Route 1 will know the one I mean ;).
