AKILI YOUTH AFRICA
Drag to set position!
AKILI is a non-profit organization which offers educational opportunities for young East Africans through its unique local, and international youth exchange program.
The aim of the AKILI is to develop and assist youth in becoming productive citizens and active catalysts for positive change in their diverse and changing communities. AKILI programs focus on the youth, who make up over 60% of Tanzania's population, so that they can learn life skills together with academic material relevant to their lives. AKILI envisions East African youth, who in future years will be able to deal with the demands and challenges of every day life with heightened psychological and social awareness and skills such as decision making, problem solving, creativity, critical thinking, communication and interpersonal relations, etc. Furthermore, AKILI networks with other organizations, schools, foundations, and individuals which serve as a bridge, ensuring that underprivileged youth obtain chances for continuing their education in schools, colleges and universities.
At the heart of AKILI programs is the concept of local and international youth exchange. Youth exchange will be employed strategically as method of exposure and education. Youth exchange programs have been developed and based around themes critical to community development such as indigenous language maintenance, environmental conservation and sustainability, training in technology and health issues. Programs include both an educational and a community service component. We hope through our programs we are contributing to the vision of young Tanzanians and young Africans who understand the diversity and wealth of cultures within their own countries have pride in local languages, and feel ownership for the environment and technology that surround them as well as for the process of their own development.
