On our first trip to Conowingo Dam in Maryland last November I noticed this guy running around with his big 500mm lens on a monopod having a blast. Everyone seemed to know him and follow him wherever he set up to shoot. I heard someone call him Andy, so when I returned home I found his photo stream on Flickr. I was amazed at all his fantastic Eagle photos. I knew then why people shoot alongside him. This year when my son and I arrived at the dam the first thing we did was look for Andy. He has such vast knowledge of the Bald Eagle's behavior. He knows things like where they they will be feeding at different times of the day depending on the conditions of the river or when an Eagle will leave a tree perch so you can get a launch shot. You can tell just by watching Andy shooting that he has a passion for photographing wildlife. And don't be surprised when you see him go take a break from shooting to feed one of the stray cats that hang out at the dam. The Conowingo Dam wouldn't be the same without him. I met Andy shooting at Conowingo Dam. I don't think I ever met a kinder and more helpful person and so willing to help photographers with any settings or camera questions. Andy is a gifted photographer and a dedicated wildlife photographer with a great interest in detail and presentation. (not to mention, he can take portaits and modeling shots too!)
