Along with many of my peers, I am putting together my Aviation images collection taken by me over the last 54 years (as at 2026) into databases online and offline hoping some of the history can be preserved.

I was more of a spotter than a photographer but still managed to take what could be described as ‘reasonable images’ from 1972, 2 years after I started spotting.

It follows that my overall image standard will fall short of many of the online Aviation image databases but, I took the images for my use so they are what they are.

Combining my logs now in Planebase with their photo database and personal flights (264 as of 2022) details of all registrations not just airframes produces an interesting timeline when combined with all the images against an airframe.

‘Interesting’ is in the eye of the beholder and whilst I am pleased to be putting everything together I feel sad that over the coming years my effort may not be appreciated or lost.

There was a comment in a recent communication

From the Planebase team:

“Sadly, due to our ages, the curve of the longevity of the hobby is probably now heading in a downward trajectory and where we will be 10-20 years from now will be interesting to say the least.”
