I have a BFA in studio art painting with a minor concentration in ceramic sculpture.

Many years ago I painted large, using my arm's full range-of-motion to create fluid arcs and swirls of color. Tangoing with my paintings was delightful. My studio space was different then.

Now that my space is limited, the challenge for me is trying to achieve the same poetry of line, shape, and color within a smaller, more mail-friendly area.

I work in several different mediums, but mostly encaustic. I find the nature of this medium lends itself to the narrative quality of illustration and storytelling. The inherent translucence of encaustic adds mystery to the subject matter emphasizing the dreamlike quality of memory. The texture of the wax urges the viewer to stop, wonder, and then read on.

Art is catharsis. For that reason, my favorite artists are those who create visual symphonies, some more "adagio" others more of a cacophony. Some examples are Paul Klee, Anselm Kiefer, Jim Dine, Helen Frankenthaler, Mark Rothko, Sylvia Ji, Audrey Kawasaki, Saber, Camille Rose Garcia, Yellena James, Glenn Barr, the whole German Expressionism gang...

I'm just re-tuning my instruments at this point.
