"Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond that which is measurable. It's our light, not our dark side, that frightens us the most. We ask ourselves, who am I to say that I'm brilliant, marvelous, talented, fabulous? In fact, who are we to say that we are not?"

I'm a Newfoundlander living in Switzerland since 1984. A switz- I mean, a switch.

Photography is a way of recharging my batteries. But I confess I've gone from using a Canon EOS450D with a very nice telephoto lens to my iPhone 4. Sheer laziness.

I first stumbled across Adrienne or *Ariel* as so many people know her, back in April 2005, fairly soon after both of us had joined Flickr. Not the kind of stumble where you hurt your toe; more like falling into a comfortable sofa. I immediately was drawn to her style and above all, the way she composes her images. Adrienne has a way of picking the right angle and the right crop to make the most out of a given situation. Some of her images often seem straightforward at first glance, but after a few moments you realise how much of her art has gone into creating the picture. Often perfectly framed and capturing not only the subject, but the feel of the scene. There has always been a rich diversity of subject matter in Adrienne’s work, together with a warmth and personal touch that I think is so important. I look forward to the many pictures she has yet to create and inspire us all with.

I came across *Ariel* in the Switzerland Group and quickly realised that she viewed life and photography quite similarly to myself, yet also refreshingly different. Her photos capture the true life of Switzerland without being schmaltzy; revealing her family, those that she cares for at work, the environment and , of course, the landscape with a personal touch that is truly herself. She's one of my favourite contacts, injecting humour into the addiction of Flickr. Did I mention her photos are good too?
