Sincere. Authentic. Captivating. Inspirational. What I find attractive in people is what I strive for in each image I create.
As an executive, I dedicated many years to work I loved, but ultimately, the essence of “who I am” was surrendered to the fast-paced, high-pressure reality of our culture. I made a conscious decision to invest more in myself and to nurture a well-rounded life that would include a focus on my art. My hope is that by example and through my images I will inspire others to rediscover their creative selves.
Photography is a form of meditation for me. First, there is the stillness and steady breathing required when focusing without a tripod on the microscopic and beautifully abstract elements of flora. There are the Zen moments when I am alone and isolated, dangling from a boulder above frigid water, trusting my intuition as I compose a shot. Creating allows me to feel connected with something bigger and completely outside myself, yet at the same time That which is so very much a part of me. When art is forefront in my life I am a better person…healthier, happier, aware, more balanced and energized and more in-tune and intentional in my living. Finally, through photography I am able to reveal that which often goes unnoticed; and hopefully encourage others to look deeper.
My work is self-directed. I am always studying and learning, but I am careful not to allow the acquisition of technical expertise to detract from what comes naturally to me.
Art is so subjective. What excites me about an image is rich color and texture, the juxtaposition of strong line and soft light, and the revelation of unusual or hidden elements of the ordinary. Especially when composing macro images, I feel as though I am creating a window into a world rarely seen or at least a new and captivating perspective.
While any scene from my mapless adventures is a potential photograph, I am not casual in my efforts. I work alone and I am driven to re-create what I have often already seen and processed in my mind’s eye.
I understand that art enthusiasts are frequently concerned with authenticity in the world of digital photography. I strive to capture each composition just as I would like it printed with minimal post-processing. My goal is to create images that make you question if you are looking at a painting.
All of my images are original gyclées printed with archival inks on fine art papers and fabrics. Each piece is framed with archival supplies to ensure it will retain its beauty for a lifetime. Every image is a hand-signed and numbered small-series limited edition.
Thank you for viewing my work. There is great pleasure in sharing what inspires me. However, pure personal satisfaction is embodied in the moment when my vision and technique become entangled with a subject…there is a feeling…then I release the shutter. What follows is contentment and then joy. I wish the same for you.
