Dr. Ajith C. S. Perera is a Chartered Chemist by Profession and a Fellow of several prestigious international organisations, Former Test-Match-Panel Cricket Umpire, Disability Rights Activist and an Advisor on accessibility at public buildings and facilities, Founder and Secretary-General of IDIRIYA (a not-for-profit registered organisation based in Sri Lanka promoting accessibility at public buildings for the dis-Abled persons) and a Wheelchair user since 1993.

Appearing in person on his wheelchair first in October 2009 and then again in April 2011, he successfully pursued a public interest litigation fundamental rights application at the Supreme Courts seeking redress for physically disabled persons accessing NEW public buildings in Sri Lanka. REF: SCFR: 221/2009

Dr. Perera petitioned the court March 2009 concerning the continuing very poor accessibility and SAFETY to services even at NEW public buildings and on the urgent need to have the laws that had existed for 14 years fully enforced and implemented in the larger interest of Sri Lanka and the 25% of its population - an estimated 5 million human lives - affected for different reasons by 'restricted mobility'.
