Hey, I'm Pete. I am a film student at LIU Post. Most of my photography is in black and white. It's not that I'm trying to be super artsy or anything but it's a preference for the subject. Color can be very distracting at times and I believe that monochrome almost forces the viewer to hone in on the features of the face and the shadowy contours made by light.
Natural light is preferred and I love taking photos as candidly as possible. Several influences of my work are Joseph Szabo and Allen Ginsberg. The prior took candid photography of teens and angst life in the 70's and 80's.
The latter was the famous beat poet who wrote "Howl". How is Ginsberg an influence? His free form writing was also in his photography of the people around him. Ginsberg took portraits and candid photos of his friends and acquaintances... and a lot of them were great and creative people. My goal is to take photos of the great and creative people in my own life.
