This flickr was started in 2005 when I lived in Hangzhou 杭州, China. Although my original idea was to provide an illustrated chronicle of my life there for my friends back at home, the photography aspect quickly picked up some momentum. While the idea of a chronicle remained, I focus on SLR photography now – with the occasional iPhone snapshot. All uploads are chronological by »date taken«. A photo diary that could well be titled The world according to Tilman. I sticked to Absurdistan, a name that reflects so well the joys of being a foreign student in China.

When asked what kind of photography I "specialise" in, I find that difficult to answer. Things that look interesting or æsthetic to me: staircases, architecture, [urban] landscapes, people, street scenes, transportation, trains and stations, light and weather… much of which could be described as »travel photography«, and one could say I »travel« a lot at home. If I'd need to name a common topic, it might be light. But please look for yourself ;).
