Thanks for visiting! I hope you like some of my photography.

My posts here have not kept up for a few months with my photography, so for a while you will find a gap between "taken" and "posted" dates of the photos.

For me, as for many of you, photography is about stopping and looking. That can happen anywhere, any time. If I am looking, and if I find something striking, and I have my camera with me, I like to record what strikes me and in what way.

What I find striking could be anything, from most trivial daily items to most famous monuments, places, or scenes (but mainly the ordinary!). If something is noteworthy, I like to think about how it can be presented so as to embellish its noteworthiness. It includes the framing or composition, the lighting, and some amount of post-processing.

Frequently visiting exotic places is not practical. I usually roam around Tokyo and neighboring areas, usually on weekends, but occasionally on weekdays to avoid crowds.

Although I do not avoid well-known tourist spots, my preference is towards less known (yet easily accessible) places.

I cannot say my photos are unique, because others have seen what I can see, and others have shot what I can shoot. But many times I avoid taking a photo if I have seen it taken a lot by others.

For me, as for some of you, photography is also about being geeky. I like the idea that I become one with this piece of technology, called the camera, to capture what I intend to, in the way I intend to. I like to be aware of every bit of functionality of the machine, and make the best use of the features relevant to my style.

As I look at your photo streams, I learn more ways to look at things, more ways to present things. Thanks for the inspiration!

I sometimes write in Japanese (which being my fourth language, is far from perfect). In those cases when a description is only in Japanese, I hope you find a suitable translator. When there is both English and Japanese, mostly they say the same thing.
