I first got into photography when I received a Sony DSC-S75 3-megapixel digital camera in 2001 as a bonus from my employer. It had features like aperture and shutter priority modes and even allowed me to appreciate the power of working with RAW files.

I took this camera on a 4 month trip through Europe in 2005 and Thailand that really perked my interest in Photography. I took several thousand pictures and started to learn as much as I could about Photoshop.

My next upgrade was to a Fuji Finepix S9000 in 2006. It had a 9 megapixel sensor and also a 10.7X zoom instead of the 3X zoom the Sony before it had. I took this camera on trips to Europe and South America and was getting more and more interested in travel photography.

I bought my first SLR, the Canon Rebel XSi (aka 450D) in 2007 with the 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS kit lenses. With this camera I went on an 8 month tour through Asia essentially dedicated to learning photography. These are the earliest of the pictures which I'm posting on Flickr today.

I received a 50mm f/1.8 lens for Christmas, and then bought a Canon 40D,a Canon 10-22 and 24-105L IS f/4 before a trip to Belize and Guatemala in 2010. This equipment felt like a huge upgrade and I have posted some of these pictures on Flickr now too.

I splurged and got myself a 70-200L IS f2/8 II since returning from that trip to Central America. I have booked a trip with my wife (as always) to Istanbul for New Years 2010 and then India for 3 weeks in early 2011. We are planning on heading to Sri Lanka but want to wait on buying that ticket.

I have all summer to spend in Toronto and the surrounding area in Canada until then. I work full time in I.T., but spend my weekends trying to get out and always have my camera with me.

I feel like Flikr has opened my eyes to a whole new world. I have seen more inspiring and talented photos already then I ever dreamed of. Most importantly, many people share their EXIF data which helps me learn from their experiences.

Update 1: October 2011, recently picked up the Canon EF 2X teleconverter and a 5D mark II body. This is getting to be an expensive hobby.
