I got my first camera at the age of 12. I have taken pictures ever since. The first years I did a lot of black & white, mainly because it was cheapest. My mother bought me darkroom equipment when I was 13, and for many years I spent a lot of time developing photos – and most of my money went to buy Tri X and D-76.
To me photography is all about giving a true representation of my view and perspective of the world around me. I usually complete the picture in the moment when I look through the lens, therefor the only editing I do afterwards is to get as close to what I saw as possible. That is also why I mostly do color pictures. I need a special reason to do black & white. In my opinion a picture doesn’t get more artistic by simply subtracting the colors – the motive must really gain clarity to justify it.
I have always been amazed by the beauty of nature, and marveled by the beauty of girls and women. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say, and my motivation as a photographer is really to express all this beauty I see, in everything around me. I have a strong urge to document and collect all these wonders I see, and some I like to share here at Flickr.
Nowadays my favorite motives are my grandchildren. I love to capture them in my camera, as they grow up. That is my greatest joy. Even though these probably are my best photos, I don’t share them publicly as long as the children are too small to give their own consent. I really think we should respect and protect all models that are too small to understand the concept of sharing photos with the whole world.
