I rediscovered my love of photography in 2015, after a 34 year career in audio engineering and music. I originally started out as a young photographer, setting up a modest darkroom in my basement, selling prints at craft fairs and flea markets, doing a stint as the high school yearbook photo editor, etc. In 1979, I entered MIT’s new graduate program in Arts and Media Technology, studying under Otto Piene. Upon obtaining my Master’s Degree, I held a Fellowship at the MIT Center For Advanced Visual Studies. During those years, I was very privileged to work with and learn from some extremely gifted artists, photographers and filmmakers, including Ricky Leacock, Robert Frank, Nam June Paik, John Cage, Harriet Casdin-Silver and several others, as well as working briefly in Minor White’s lab just before he retired.

Soon after I graduated, I began working professionally in audio, and my serious photography activity all but stopped. I am overjoyed at having photography back in my life. It has been really good for me in so many ways.

"Albums" are crucial to the organization of my current work. In each album, the titles and images are grouped intuitively or explicitly as a self-contained piece, part of the larger stream. Over time, I have lost interest in the individual photograph, and the quest for some photographic ideal. Now I prefer to use the photographic medium as a kind of diary, documenting and exploring my experiences, thoughts and feelings, and particularly those I am not directly aware of. My titles are almost always done psychoautomatically, and explanations can be tricky to uncover.

Flickr has been a big part of my photographic rediscovery, enabling me to examine my work and philosophy more critically in the context of a wide range of extremely talented contributors. I have learned a great deal here, and look forward to learning more each day. Thanks!
