"Equal parts french film noir and contemporary portrait artist, with a touch of Ingmar Bergman, and the tiniest dash of Fellini tossed in for good measure, French photographer Christine Lebrasseur’s images are very often tightly shot or dripping in shadow. Her subjects peer at the viewer from between fingers or behind veils...and that’s when they’re looking at the camera at all. Her images offer moody, high-key glimpses of their subjects, with startlingly crisp details. No romanticized, soft focus for Lebrasseur; her subjects - what there is to see of them - are completely exposed."

I was looking for words to introduce Christine to our readers. I wrote an introduction, deleted and wrote another again however I was still unable to find any words suitable to describe this great artist and her work, for the emotion, the feeling that her portraits show was extremely difficult for me to capture in words. Perhaps that is why it is said a picture is worth a thousand words.

Photographe.

A vif.

In Christine's stream I stumble upon image after image illustrating one of my main interests in photography: the keen and caring eye that recognizes moments or places overlooked by most people and the possibility to give those an air of magic, be it warm and inviting or dark and mysterious. Her portraits tend to pierce through the skin of people, revealing their inner beauty through a certain pose of the hands, a blink in the eye, perhaps an almost hidden smile... Taking images like that demands an inner beauty by both photographer and model, imo - one can hardly ever express true warmth in an image unless you are like that yourself to enable you to make the exact connection, to be able to feel the moment when the magic is there: only when matching minds meet can portraits like that come to life. Thank you, Christine, for sharing those magical moments with us!

Christine is an artist with the camera, and certainly one of the best on Flickr. As a very amateur photographer, I initially found her ground breaking photographs difficult, but she has helped me to grow in understanding their power and artistry. I salute her activity on Flickr to promote photos. She must have an army of secretaries. We are so fortunate to have Christine's creativity, artistry and energy making Flickr a better and more beautiful place. Bless you, Christine, for being here.

I first saw these gorgeous photos from Christine -- well, it is impossible avoid finding one of her images the moment that you join flickr. They exemplified a use of colour and focus that always held my interests, and of many others. To not mention that she was highly encouraging for me to get my work out there on flickr would be a horrible oversight: she was instrumental in this kind of confidence building. Although flickr has many popular photographers, it was in Chris that I noticed a rare duality of presenting high quality work, and spending time on the work of others (directly or indirectly). I have not being able to like any of the other "stars" of flickr, but here is a real person to me. Then, there was -- what I perceive -- a change. I think it was around the time of her visit to NYC, that I noticed a new direction with her photos. I cannot keep track how popular her work since then with the usual measure of flickr, but now I relish her work more so than ever: that to me is what makes me enjoy a photographer -- not the same old safe style, but to grow internally to show the work externally. Oh yes, and we still have a mutual fascination for hands revealing a story.

I think it is the time to say something about Christine, after one year and half - since we've met here, on Flickr. About her photography - it is absolutely different and bold, with an imaginative and very artistic point of view - it took me some time to understand it, perhaps I wasn't well prepared for her incredible style. She brought a new wave on Flickr giving us the chance to see and understand Art as pure emotion. There is always something to learn from Christine's work - I would honestly advice all new comers in photography to study her compositions. About Christine as a person...:) She is always ready to give a hand to any unknown talent, she has an admirable honesty which I appreciate mostly, she is very smart and sensitive, also a very elegant presence. Anything else about Christine ( I love the resonance of your name, that's why I never use Chris...) is feeling, I can not express my genuine feelings in a Language is not mine. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you, Christine Lebrasseur....

I have been aware of Christine Lebrasseur's photography for some time now, and I am compelled to state here and now that I love it. Christine's photography is thought provoking and conceptual; it is creative, poetic and different from the rest. Armed with traditional values such as superb framing and an excellent use of light, Christine singlehandedly takes you beyond the front door and into a world of fantasy...and sometimes to the edge of reason. We need more serious and committed photographers like her out there.
