My son and I started this account when we started to acquire some old film cameras.
I have to admit the idea really sprang from my friend Matt who is a film buff and a technical photographer. I tried to offend his sensibilities once by getting him some classic Canon APS cameras for his Birthday but he just took it in his stride and had soon taken some really nice photos on them.
Everyone in my family was a point-and-shoot snapper so having had a couple of megapixel arguments the 99pcameraclub went purely film and started trying to prove that optics were more important than numbers in the Argos catalogue and that the thought that goes into the shot is more important still.
Most of the stuff we use comes from Ebay. Sometimes we pay more than 99p and obviously the postage and developing does push the price up but the idea is to have fun on a budget. Sometimes we have to clean and fix up the cameras and all the film is taken to our friendly local lab where they develop and scan it for us - we don’t do any post processing.
All that said and after all our bargain purchases and adventures taking photographs the most exciting thing has been the Flickr community. So – a huge thanks to everyone for all their wonderful photos, advice and comments!
