A have been a keen Amateur Photographer for over 40 years and was given my first camera, an old Box Brownie, by my father at around 10 years old and my brother gave me a Halina 110 as a present when I was 14. My first 35mm camera was a Braun Super Paxette and I then progressed to Olympus. This was influenced by my late Uncle Harry who was my mentor and a superb photographer. His theory was that of the big 4, Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Olympus, He could easily afford the top of the range Olympus, but the top of the range Canon and Nikon where out of reach, so he purchased an OM1n and OM2n. My first Olympus was an OM1n bought second hand in 1984. I upgraded to an OM4 before rather foolishly selling my Olympus cameras in order to purchase my first digital camera, a Fuji Z4900 from memory. Having regretted selling my 35mm cameras I am now in a position to collect them and now own several Olympus cameras including OM1n, OM2n, Om2Sp, OM3 and OM4Ti. The OM1n is my favourite camera of all time, a true design classic and my Uncle's original OM1n, which I inherited from another very good friend who my Uncle later sold it to. I studied photography in the 80s at Kidderminster College gaining both O level and A level qualifications. I have a massive back catalogue of film negatives which I intend to digitise at some point!
My first DSLR was a Canon 450D purchased from FB marketplace, after getting the bug once again I invested heavily in Canon kit eventually ending up with a 7D MKII a 1DX, and a large selection of L series lenses, including the ultra rare 180 F1.8, one of the best lenses ever made. In 2024 I made a decision to sell all of my Canon kit as it was becoming very heqvy to carry. After some research I purchased a OM system OM1 MKII, 12-40mm F2.8 Pro and a 40-150 F2.8 pro with 1.4x converter, Micro 4/3 is certainly a lot lighter than the Canon Kit, I changed to OM as I found the Canon mirrorless extremely expensive and the R7 was in short supply at the time, To be honest I have found MIcro 4/3 to be superb and every bit as good in quality as the Canon gear, you could say I have gone full circle back to my OM roots! After a short break due to personal reasons I an back photogrphing cars at the famous Shelsley Walsh.
My main photographic interest is Motor Sport, in particular the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb, the oldest Motor Sport venue in the World. I have been a member of the MAC for several years. Shelsley Walsh is a superb venue where you can get really close to the action. The MAC also organise some fantastic meetings which include some of the rarest cars in the world and, as a car enthusiast it is a privilege to be able to see these cars being used for the purpose they were built and not stored in a museum.
I hope you enjoy looking through my pictures. Andrew.....
