"I met Thomaz almost exactly a year ago, in mid-June. In our first conversation, he noticed my rez day had just passed and congratulated me. I remember that he said “Keep smiling. It suits you!” It’s not often in any life that I’ve happened across a stranger who is instantly so kind without pretense. Thomaz is the sort of person who is kind just for the sake of being kind. Since then, Thomaz has become a frequent and welcomed voice in our chat group and has participated (and won) many of our photo contests. If fact, he was the winner of the June photo contest featured in this issue. I admired Thomaz’ photos immediately, but it was when he won FOCUS’ “black and white” photo contest last August that many of us stopped in our tracks. The concept, the angle and the lighting gave a photo of a simple elephant striking depth.
