Took up photography at school and walked out of biology to do photography O level. Just loved dodging in and warming up a print as well as getting the composition right in the camera. (hence Black and white of old). nearly failed O level by being a smart arse and wandering off the syllabus.

Once used an Exa which had a waist level viewfinder that taught me never to assume I would shoot from eye level ever again.
