Martin's Little Shop of Photos
Drag to set position!
Photography has been my biggest passion since can remember. I was first exposed to photography as a teenager. What attracted me to it was the unique smell of film and the fact you could immortalize a subject in space and time. When the film to digital transitioned happened I was intrigued, but until very recently I never felt digital could be on par with film. I still shoot medium format, 4x5 and 8x10 large formats. It is to be different and scare people with the rich shutter sound of the Hasselblad or the sheer size of the 8x10 cameras, which has people run for cover.
Creating a large format photograph helps to focus the eye, the mind and hopefully the camera. I like the character and added resolution of certain sheet films, such as Efke 25, Velvia 50, Tmax, Fomapan and FP4+. I continue to be inspired by the classic photographers, like Ansel Adams, the Westons and Minor White and try to learn from their works.
Update:
2011 has been a great year; I sold my first photo at a gallery exhibit and landed some paid commissioned shoots. In addition, two of my photos appeared in the local newspaper and covered two "orchids" in the Orchid & Onions architectural award.
2012 onwards has been less kind to my photographic ambitions. Work had kept me on the road for the last 5 years, and since it involved traveling the globe at short notice, and with no chance to stop and smell the proverbial roses, my photo projects took the backseat. Determined to make them happen later this year.
2019 has arrived and I still am not able to spend more time with my beloved hobby. I am determined to make a career transition this year that will hopefully free up some of my weekends, so stay tuned!
