I like and love to do so many things that I end up being mediocre at best in everything. But then, competition has never been my thing.

My heart beats to rock climbing (for 25 years now), swimming, the woods and backcountry, photography / videography, making extremely odd music, writing, history, reading, flight simulation... and oriental cooking.

Many of the photos I display here are unedited (with the exception of a few older ones), not even color or contrast corrected. It used to be a kind of personal challenge, not a "religious" view on what photographers should do. Nowadays we're seeing loads of these HDR photos where there often isn't a trace of the original atmosphere left to them. Admittedly they are often very beautiful indeed as pieces of art. But for me photography serves most of all my desire to remember things, people and places. Therefore I mostly shot the old-fashioned way, taking lots of shots with different settings and just hoped one or two of them turned out good. But in the end, I gave up and have been routinely editing my photos for some time now. The edits are very light: I shoot RAW and correct the contrast, lights and shadows, often the white balance too. My goal is still to achieve the original atmosphere, nothing more.

I've had many cameras over the years. In the late '80ies and early '90ies I had an Olympus film camera that I really liked, then a Minolta (can't remember the model of either of those). Then in the 21st century I modernized myself with many crop sensor DSLRs: a Nikon D5000, then it's successor D5100; Canon EOS 650D and 700D switched into 70D. Finally I went micro-four-thirds with the Panasonic DMC-FZ1000 for its 4K video qualities.

Recently, I sold my camera and am contemplating my next move. Until that, I'm surprisingly content shooting with a smart phone and I especially enjoy the 4K video quality that these modern phones can reach.
