I live with my wife and son in the small village of Malahat on an Island in the Pacific --- Vancouver Island. Vancouver Island is located on the west coast of Canada in the Province of British Columbia surrounded by mainland BC to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the west, the USA to the south, and Haida Gwaii to the north.

I became interested in photography as a young teenager in the early 1960s when I received my first camera, a lightly used 1950s Kodak Duaflex II. It had a hooded top viewfinder and used 620 roll film. I primarily shot in black & white and soon acquired a used enlarger and began developing my own film and photographs in our home’s pantry (turned into a darkroom) to the chagrin of my mother. During the early 1970s, I purchased a number of 35mm SLR cameras; Pentax Spotmatic II, Fujica ST801 and an Olympus OM-1N, settling on the OM-1N as my 35mm base system augmented with various lenses, motor drives, macro-bellows, viewfinders, etc. I also purchased a new Kowa Super 66 medium format SLR to meet my more demanding photographic needs.

In 1973, I completed various courses in photography and began my part-time photography business shooting sports events, weddings, and in-home portraiture. I even dabbled in news photography in the mid-70s. My darkroom work also expanded to include colour film and color photograph production for my wedding and portraiture assignments with the acquisition of a new Beseler colour enlarger to replace my old black and white enlarger and by utilizing temperature controlled processing tanks.

I gave up my serious involvement in professional photography in the late 70s due to a conflict with my full time career.

I have returned to photography over the last few years as a hobby, experimenting with its digital form, currently using a Canon 600D DSLR, various lenses, and various software programs. I still prefer the look of film and experiment with methods to achieve that look.

One of my interests is experimenting with HDR using Magic Lantern enhancements to the Canon firmware.
