OxSTaR is the University of Oxford’s purpose built, state-of-the-art medical simulation teaching and research facility located within the Nuffield Division of Anaesthetics at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Our aim is to provide pioneering training while also supporting research into the capability of clinical simulation to enhance existing approaches to training for medical students and professionals from multidisciplinary healthcare backgrounds and related services. Simulated learning scenarios provide invaluable opportunities to observe, develop and test how healthcare professionals work together and interact with their environment and equipment.
The technology at OxSTaR can be used to create particularly challenging clinical scenarios; trainees work under the associated pressures of time and heightened stress levels experienced in real clinical situations but have the benefit of immediate feedback in a supportive environment from experienced facilitators.
