I am simply a traveler who enjoys the world with a camera and am happy to show my photos to the world
So - why flickr?
1) after windows crashed my PC a few times in 2013 I decided to save some pics here simply as a precautionary backup
2) saving online has made me revisit my pictures and look at some I had not seen in a while with a new eye
3) it encouraged me downsize the very large + growing numbers of pics I was keeping
4) it encouraged me to correctly name and appropriately catalog my pictures
5) As such, I use flickr more of a place to list the various plants/animals I have seen and document the places I have been rather than using it to showcase the best
6) the stats and 'likes/faves/viewed' images provide a little feedback on which ones the world of flicker viewers like - although it is pointless to take much notice as views are mostly dependent on the amount of 'socialization' you do within flickr rather than the quality of the pictures
7) many moons ago I did entertain the idea of making money from photography, but with the vast number of pictures and picture takers out there it really didn't look feasible even for things like stock photography (the only successes I know have had a combination of great people skills and/or became photo tour guides or take pictures of people rather than nature).

Hello, dear Russell (or Mr. Scott, according your preference). First, I beg your pity for my english. I am a self-learner both in photography as in languages ! Well. What a wonder in the world seen through your lenses !! Warning ! .....I am not a superficial enthusiast for places, environments & landscapes. During last nine years I have passed some - may be - six or seven millions of pics from web. The astonishing features of your production (beyond the appropriately bulk quantity, adequate quality, large sizing, free downloadability of your pictures) are a very pleasant variety of subjects and, mainly, the wide documentative activity pointed on unclassical, uncelebrated, uncrowded, unobvious countries of the whole world !!! Sincere, sincere, sincere compliments and just a generic remark on the Flickr's contents & philosophy: when an author scores a not remarkable number of likes, two only the reasons may be: not interesting photos or too much personal choices and interpretations of the photographer.
