Luma Module Burningman Sculpture 2013
Drag to set position!
The Luma Module was a sculpture for built for Burning Man, Black Rock City, Nevada in 2013.
Lead Artist Deborah Davies (www.ddavies.me) worked at the time as Artist In Residence at The Centre for Creative Collaboration (C4CC) in London, UK.
The sculpture was made in collaboration with other designers based in both the UK and USA. Major design input came from USA-based artist Andrew Murphy. Mark Stokes was the UK based designer who focussed on lighting and the origami interior with main structural design from Mark Lomas. Electronics were designed and made by Adrien Goodwyn, mechanical device was created and made by Dave Pedroli. Additional crew members were Peter Stuge and Tim Panton.
Luma Module was built in Oakland, California at NIMBY with a prototype built at London Hackspace.
Luma Module was an interactive Spaceship whereby participants where asked to “give and receive light”. They did this by having their “inner light status” measured by a machine. The readout was then translated into a physical object, in this instance, a light-up ball that indicated by the colour of the ball, whether or not the recipient was a God, an Angel, a Demon or the Devil. Those who received a light up ball were invited to donate it back the sculpture thus changing the look of the installation as the week progressed. www.lumamodule.uk
